9:00 - 9:30
  • Registration, Class sign-up and Exhibitor Viewing

  • Beginning Genealogy - Sue Luithle, President, JCGS; Volunteer Field Genealogist NSDAR; Vice-Regent, Louisiana Purchase Chapter
    • Don't know where to start? Never had a class, need directions, just want to know what to do? Come to this class and I will teach you how to get going on your journey of your family and where you came from.
  • Options on Genealogy Software and New Developments - Christine Merseal, CGSM; Library Specialist I - Genealogy, Jefferson County Library and Rhea Arculeer, Vice-President, JCtabGS
    • For several decades, Family Tree Maker has been the most popular genealogy software available. However, an announcement by the manufacturer in late 2015 has created changes in the industry. Learn about the new developments pertaining to Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic, and Legacy. A brief description of each product will be discussed.

  • Shades of Blue and Gray: Finding Your Civil War Ancestors through Missouri Records — John Dougan, Missouri State Archivist
    • No corner of Missouri was untouched by the Civil War and records, when they survived, are abundant. This session will introduce researchers to both common and unusual records that will aid their research.
  • U. S. Migration, The Growth of a Nation — Mindy Hudson, Genealogy Senior Clerk II, Jefferson County Library
    • Since the discovery of the New World, people have been arriving from all over the globe. Who came? Why did they come? When did they arrive? Why did they keep moving? These questions and more will be the focus of this class. By following world events and travel routes, we may be able to answer questions about our own ancestors.

  • German Church Books: Baptismal Records & Traditions — Kathy Wurth
    • Baptismal records are a major resource for German research and we show examples of what you can find in the records themselves but we also will discuss the practice and customs of the christening itself.
  • Backing up your Genealogy Files on the Cloud and GEDCOM transfers — Joshua Merseal, B. S., Computer Science
    • The Whys to backing up? Why should you save your genealogy documents, software-files, etc. on more than one device?

  • KEYNOTE ADDRESS — Using Missouri Digital Heritage to Research Jefferson County and Beyond — John Dougan, Missouri State Archivist
    • Learn where to find details about your ancestors on the award winning Missouri Digital Heritage website. Although focused on Jefferson County examples from Missouri State Archives’ databases, the research strategies will be applicable for all.
  • FIND-A-GRAVE, What it is and how it works — Richard Blunk
    • The purpose of this presentation is to introduce attendees to the website Find-a-GraveTM, explain what it is (and what it is NOT), how it came to be and how to use it for research or just plain fun. Bring the name of a deceased friend or family member and what cemetery they were buried in.
